Event(s) Alert: IntelliDrive℠ User Needs Workshops and Inventors Meeting

Attend one of three FREE IntelliDrive workshops and inventors meetings at the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS-JPO), part of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) will be hosting on IntelliDrive(SM) Systems Engineering User Needs to obtain stakeholder input for the definition of the core IntelliDrive System. User needs identified during these workshops will be critical to the development of the new IntelliDrive Concept of Operations (ConOps). The ConOps will describe the vision for how the IntelliDrive system will work, from the perspective of the user.

Alarm bells ringing in American oil companies; Climate Bill battle heats up in the Senate as the clock ticks closer to the Copenhagen Climate Summit

A Senate climate change proposal could add 77 cents a gallon to the price of gasoline, according to Domestic oil refiners. A group of refiners used the possible price hike on Wednesday to launch the latest in a series of attacks against the proposal. The CEO of refining giant Valero Energy Corp. also warned today that the Senate climate legislation would give a competitive advantage to foreign refiners and cost U.S. jobs.

For example, Arlington County has recently sued the Feds and the Commonwealth over the proposed project on I-95/395 to expanding and convert the existing HOV lanes to High-Occupancy Toll lanes, demanding the overturning of the project’s environmental Categorical Exclusion and suspending the project until their objections (notably not enough emphasis on transit, potential harm to air quality, concern about congested interchanges and local roads as a result of the project) were satisfied.

French get serious about eletric vehicles with a massive $2.2B “Battle of Electric Cars” plan; Goal: 2 Million Cars, 4 Million Chargers by 2020

France will invest 2.5 billion euros ($3.6 billion) over 10 years in research, subsidies and infrastructure development for electric cars as automakers race to get the vehicles on the road, its energy minister said. Speaking at a presentation of the government’s plans for electric vehicles on Thursday, minister Jean-Louis Borloo said the investment would be split between pilot projects, battery production and bonuses for carmakers building green cars.

NY Times outlines the difficulties facing re-authorization; Legislation for a 21st Century Transportation System Doesn’t Come Easy

According to a Center for Public Integrity report released yesterday, there are nearly 1,800 special interest groups lobbying Congress on the transportation bill, ranging from local officials and planning agencies to real estate companies, construction firms and universities. In the first half of this year, the groups employed more than 2,000 lobbyists and spent an estimated total of $45 million on their transportation lobbying.
