Selling public transportation to the American audience – An American version of this should have aired durng Superbowl

February 4, 2015 at 1:33 pm

Who knew the bike loving Danes are bent on promoting public transportation? This funny commercial from Danish public transit company Midttrafik shows what we haven’t done in the United States – showing our car-crazy nation that riding public transportation is cool and a “better choice” than driving a car.  Maybe airing such a funny promotional material for transit during Superbowl can end up being a national embarrassment, given the poor state of our public transportation infrastructure/service delivery across the land.

And here is the original commercial (from 2012):

The New Yorker Takes On the #Manspreading Issue with a Brilliant Cartoon

January 9, 2015 at 12:10 pm

#Manspreading much? LOL. For the uninformed, “Manspreading,” is the term coined for this: when men take up excess space by sitting with their legs far apart in buses and trains (and this has long been a pet peeve for fellow riders, particularly women). Off late there has been a lot of discussions on this topic, which I suspect was what prompted this brilliant cartoon.

Cars are the worst space hogs in our urban environments

This graphic puts the use of space by each surface transportation mode in perspective.. and it is quite obvious that cars eat up a lot of space in our urban environments.
