CMRT Transit HomeCentral Maryland Regional Transit Agency seeks one paid Transportation Planning Intern to support their Planning Department in the ongoing performance analysis and development of a multi-jurisdictional public transit bus service which extends throughout the Central Maryland region.   This position is a learning opportunity for an individual seeking to grow their knowledge of planning and data analysis in the public transportation industry.

The Intern will assist the Planning Department in building relationships with partner organizations, conducting research, maintaining its transit database, and preparing presentations and other materials.

Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal skills and have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Access, Excel and Word. In addition, a working knowledge of ArcGIS is required.

Aside from working with the Planning Department, the Intern will also work closely with the agency’s marketing program serving as a community transportation advocate promoting accessible and affordable transportation options. This may include attending functions, seminars, events, fairs, etc. to communicate directly with end-users to gather data and receive feedback on the progress of transportation in the CMRT service area.

Oh, England. Why you so racist? Another embarrassing episode of racist woman caught on camera

This is not just another episode of racist English woman spewing nasty words in a public transit system caught on camera.. This one features an interesting twist.. Yes! A loud potty mouth riding a bus in London on Tuesday night starts abusing her fellow passenger calling him racial slurs. The situation quickly escalates into a physical altercation. Too bad she underestimated her opponent before putting her hands on him, which swiftly earns her a good beating. Apart from the self-humiliation she inflicted on herself, she gets thrown out of the bus as the melee ends.  As usual, the funny Redditors have made some awesome comments.Recommend reading them for a good laugh.

FYI – The video upload date reveals that it is an older incident (June 2011) but somehow found its way to the limelight after living in the dark depths of YouTube.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

Durban promises to meet 2010 deadline for R1.2bn public-transport programmes

All of Durban’s public transport projects, which are being funded by the national government to the tune of R1,2-billion, will be completed by the first quarter of 2010,Carlos Esteves, deputy head of the Road System Management for eThekwini, said ast week. 

The city aims to promote public transport over private transport to make the city more accessible and to ease movement around the city centre for commuters and pedestrians. 

Projects on target for 2010 include additional dedicated public transport lanes, an inner city distribution system, park and ride facilities using existing car parks and buses, upgrades to major intersections, a freeway management system, a closed-circuit television road monitoring system and a traffic call centre. 

Durban’s King Shaka International Airport is expected to start operating in May 2010, just in time for the FIFA World Cup, and a shuttle service will be provided for passengers between the airport and a central transport hub in the city.
